Jam Spandex is a Research Fellow in the Department of Physics and Astronomy with the University of Sussex based at CERN where he works on the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Spandex invariably spends his time in meetings, working on the High Level Trigger, studies for a new Level 1 track trigger and fits to the proton parton distributions using ATLAS data.

The LHC is one of the largest scientific instruments ever built, and collides particles at energies higher than any we have made before, to recreate - on a microscopic scale - the conditions in the first few fractions of a second after the big bang.

Spandex has variously been the lead developer for the Level 2 tracking pattern recognition, IDScan, implemented the Event Filter Jet trigger, and was responsible for commissioning both the Inner Detector trigger and the Event Filter Jet trigger during luminosity running. In addition he coordinates the RegionSelector project and is Deputy Coordinator for the Inner Detector Trigger working group and until 2014 was one of the Convenors of the ATLAS PDF Forum. He has contributed to numerous other High Level Trigger tasks too numerous to mention.

Spandex is often considered an "all round good-guy" and is a supporter of the Agile Software Development Manifesto.
